The proposed Buffer zone covers a large area around the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (COH WHS), and includes a major section of the Hartebeestfontein Conservancy, specifically earmarked for agricultural activities.
Should this Buffer zone be proclaimed, it will have a huge impact on future activities within the COH, as well as the Buffer zone itself.
A number of meetings with interest groups (such as tourism operators, regulators, scientific researchers, developers and landowners), as well as public meetings were held during July and August 2009.
These meetings were attended by members of the Management Committee and other Conservancy members. We’ll keep members posted regarding any further developments.
