Dirt roads in the Conservancy
Monday, 22 February 2010 04:50    PDF Print E-mail
With the recent rain, one had to excercise all one’s driving skills to stay on the road and not get stuck in the mud.
As a result of the roads in the Conservancy not being maintained regularly, the roads generally deterioriated quite quickly. The Chairman made enquiries at Gautrans and learned that the contractors who had to maintain the roads in our area, were bankrupt, while vehicles, trucks and graders were not maintained as a result of a shortage of funding, and were all out of use.

The budget for 2010 will be approved in March, and funds for upgrading our roads might be available from June. A large section of the Conservancy falls within North West Province, where no funds are currently available for maintenance. It will therefore be of no use to members to make individual enquiries to the authorities or to become too hot under the collar about this issue.
