On Sunday, 9 May 2010, the Conservancy celebrated the second year of its annual mountain bike ride at Mokoya Lodge. The Beest Trail is a family event, incorporating a short trail for young children, a longer one for those who just want a comfortable country ride, and a 38 km ride for those who enjoy a more challenging ride.

This year also saw 23 riders from the FJ Kloppers primary school (informally dubbed the 'yellow brigade') participating in both the short and middle distance rides.

The kids had a great time!

We would like to thank Sporting Opportunities, the organisers of the event, for sponsoring these riders. We would also like to thank Denis Mclean, who took time out to present a bicycle clinic at the school, a few days prior to the race.

Our thanks also go to Conservancy members, Frik Mülder, Oom Hannes and Tannie Martie Potgieter, Jurie and Tertia Bezuidenhout and Piet Wessels for their contribution to the event by clearing a trail and allowing riders access to their respective properties on the day. It was a fun morning, and we hope to do it again next year.

Many thanks to Annette Raaff for this information and to Charmaine Leygonie for the photo.
