The next two months, until we have had our first rain, will be the most dangerous time for veld fires.  No more fire breaks should be burned from now on.
Compared to last year, we have been very fortunate this season and have had very few uncontrolled veld fires in the Conservancy. In other areas surrounding the Conservancy, huge veld fires have already caused major damage.
We appeal to members to be very careful with open fires. Under no circumstances should open fires be left unattended. As such fires can get out of control within seconds, equipment must be kept close at hand, and care should be taken that the fire is controlled properly.
